The GSSD completed the EPA order and received a letter in January stating that they were done and reminded them that if they are not compliant in the future then the $37,500/day fine will come back.
The certified water operator reported all tests in good standing; “normal, quiet, and consistent”. The well telemetry is working.
Gunlock firefighter, Doug Heizer will flush the hydrants for the GSSD on March 10th or 17th.
The board determined to discuss hydraulic modeling during the April GSSD meeting so they could have the chance to learn more about it. After the meeting there was a closed meeting for the board members.

Slacking
By Sara Laub
I’ll just come out and say it. I missed the GSSD meeting in January and my substitute wasn’t able to make it. There is no update for the GSSD meeting for the newsletter this month. My apologies.

GSSD in November
By Sara Laub
Over the Thanksgiving weekend the water operator, Judy Leavitt, checked the well pump before starting work on the plugged line and found that the pump had seized. A new upgraded pump was put in to fit Gunlock’s needs better. Since the December 2010 flood, the old well pump ran for a few months and it was not designed for that kind of use. The new pump is designed to handle longer use and also has better ability turn on and off as needed without the same kind of wear. The board is expecting to have the EPA violation order dropped in January 2012. The order has been in force for one year and it should be dropped since the GSSD has met the requirements.
The residual test in January is the last to be turned in on time as part of completing the order. The meeting dates and time for the GSSD will stay the same for 2012, which is the first Thursday of each month (except for July and August) at 7:00pm.
It was said that the Ironman contribution given to the Town Hall will be used to fix items, like the roof, on the Town Hall.

GSSD in November
By Sara Laub
Dusty Leavitt submitted his name to fill the vacancy in the Gunlock Special Service District. Concerns of attendance were brought up for Dusty Leavitt and Scott Holt as their schedules are conflicting with meeting times. The board voted Dusty Leavitt in to fill the vacancy and hope to resolve some attendance concerns by possibly moving the meeting time.
All tests have passed and it has been decided that the air vents are not causing the water flow problems. There is a blockage in the water line and it has been narrowed down to a certain length of pipe. Jay Leavitt is optimistic that removing this blockage will solve the water flow problems. He has proposed to use a probe to find the plug.
The board had to approve an appropriation increase in the 2011 budget because of the flood damage repair cost. The tentative 2012 budget was also approved and is ready for the December meeting.
The maps of the water system are nearly done and the board members are excited to have a large copy to put in the office as a reference.

Eagle Scout Project at the Park
A local scout, Hyrum Smith, asked permission from the GSSD board to add a light to the park’s new basketball court for his eagle project. He was granted permission to incorporate the power from an existing power box the GSSD owns. He also asked for any funding the GSSD could donate and the board said they may have some left in the budget.
This is an add-on from another eagle project another local scout, Jo B Shurtliff, had started by putting in the basketball court cement. The basketball hoops will be put in and the court will be painted.
